Resetting HyperXpress software back to factory default settings:
|
| |
If you want to reset your HyperXpress software back to factory default
settings or you need to because the software is locked into an unstable
startup state, you can do so by removing the cache that is used to hold
the user's settings. There is a cache stored for each user of the
software in the adm\users folder where the software was installed (for
example:
C:\Program Files\PINEBUSH\HyperXpress 5.0\adm\users).
Removing the folder for a given user will reset that user's startup
state back to the factory defaults.

Image output quality is poor:
|
| |
If image quality is poor, this may be due to several factors including
the driver that is being used, driver settings, output resolution
(dpi), paper type, etc. Below is a list of common problems and
their solutions. Typically, problems occur when users are using
the default Windows printer drivers with HyperXpress. The solution is
usually to either:
- Reconfigure the Windows driver to work better with the raster
date produced by HyperXpress
- Make sure that the manufacturer's Windows driver is the most
current version of the driver. New drivers can usually be obtained
from the manufacturer's web page.
- Use a PINEBUSH printer driver instead of the Windows driver
created by the hardware manufacturer. See the online help section on
the "Printer Model Editor" for a more detailed description on how to
install and configure a PINEBUSH driver.
While updating or reconfiguring your Windows Printer Driver is
generally easier, the use of a PINEBUSH Printer Driver will usually
produce better quality output and better performance. Below is specific
advice on image quality problems.
| Problem: |
Raster Images are grainy |
| Possible Solutions: |
If using a PINEBUSH Printer Driver...
- Change resolution to 600dpi in the HyperXpress Printer
Interface driver
- Change the HyperXpress half-tone selection to Smooth
If using Windows Printer Driver...
- Switch to using a PINEBUSH Printer Driver
(see above)
- Increase resolution to 600 dpi
- Increase quality to highest quality setting
- Turn off Fast-Raster printing if available
- Turn off any dithering feature if available
|
| Problem: |
Raster Images are too dark or there is overinking |
Possible Solutions: |
If using a PINEBUSH Printer Driver...
- Adjust Gamma, Brightness or Contrast in HyperXpress' color
controls
- Try a better quality paper
- Change ink & media settings in either the printer
driver or on the control panel of the printer
- Use the Ink Limiting feature of the driver, if available
|
| Problem: |
Raster images are clipped, data is missing, or output quality
is poor |
| Possible Solutions: |
If using a Windows Printer Driver:...
- Turn off Fast-Raster Printing if available
- Turn off Save Paper/Autorotate feature if available
|
| Problem: |
Vectors are not smooth or continuous |
| Possible Solutions: |
If using either a PINEBUSH or Windows Printer Driver:...
- Increase resolution of output driver 600 dpi
If using a Windows Printer Driver:...
- Change setting for Vector Sharpening if available
|

Merge Control feature is grayed out:
|
| |
The Merge Control feature will be grayed out when smooth half-toning
is selected. This is due to an incompatibility in the algorithms
used to produce these features. If Merge Control is needed,
either Pattern or Detail half-toning must be used.

Installation note on using HyperXpress with AutoDesk products:
|
| |
If using an AutoDesk product that supports AutoDesk's ADI/HDI drivers,
you will need to configure your AutoDesk with an ADI/HDI driver that
is associated with the HyperXpress Printer Interface (Windows system
printer) that was created during installation of HyperXpress. When
configuring an ADI or HDI driver, choose the System Printer option
from the list of available Autodesk driver types. Also make sure that
if asked during configuration, you should unset the option for this
driver to Default to Control Panel Settings.

|
Poor performance or excessive use of memory:
|
| |
When using HyperXpress in conjunction with existing Windows drivers,
you may find that HyperXpress will use an enormous amount of memory,
printing may be very slow and your system may run low on virtual
memory. This can happen when using any third-party Windows
(eg. Hewlett-Packard, ENCAD, etc) driver to pass already ripped data
through it.
You may be able to resolve this problem by ensuring that you have the
latest drivers available for your printer. Driver updates should be
available from your printer manufacturer usually through their web
site. If this does not resolve the problem, you can use drivers
provided by PINEBUSH. See the section in the online help entitled
"Printer Model Editor" for instructions on how to use a PINEBUSH
driver as an alternative.
