Problem Actions to Take

No Plot

  • Check ptisend.log.username in your local TEMP folder for errors
  • Verify HyperXpress completed rasterization with no errors by checking the run log in the Job Status tab.

HyperXpress GUI wont start

The cache is probably corrupted. Go to the PINEBUSH/HyperXpress 5.0/adm/users/username folder and delete the files there.

Do not want GUI settings preserved (cached)

Go to the PINEBUSH/HyperXpress 5.0/setup folder and edit the file pti_env_setup.tcl using WordPad. Uncomment the line:

set env(PTIHYPER_NOCACHE) 1

Plot too dark or too light

Go to Tools ▼ Properties and look for Ink Reduction property. Turn off if plot too light; turn on if plot too dark (not available for all plotters). Or, go to the Color Adjustment Dialog and modify the Halftone Settings and/or the Brightness settings.

Plot produces excess paper

Go to the Advanced tab and turn on the Save Paper options Inked Area and Auto-Rotate.

Plot is all garbage, no discernible data

Check plotter model and rerun HyperXpress with correct model.

Raster Images are grainy

For your destination printer driver:

  • Increase dpi to 600dpi
  • Increase quality to highest quality setting
  • Turn off Fast-Raster printing if available
  • Turn off any dithering feature if available
  • Change the halftone setting to Smooth

Raster images are too dark

  • Try a better quality paper
  • Change paper type in either the printer driver or printer front panel

In the HyperXpress GUI:

  • Adjust Gamma or Brightness in the Color Adjustment Dialog

Raster images are clipped or missing portions

For your destination printer driver:

  • Turn off Fast-Raster Printing if available
  • Turn off Save Paper/Autorotate feature if available

Entire image is clipped

For your destination printer driver

  • Increase size of default Page Size
  • Turn off Save Paper/Autorotate feature if available

Vectors are not smooth or continuous

For your destination printer driver

  • Increase dpi to 600dpi
  • Change setting for Vector Sharpening if available

Plot produces excess paper

For your destination printer driver:

  • Decrease the size of default Page Size
  • Turn on Save Paper/Inked-Area Only feature if available in the HyperXpress GUI

Text fonts are incorrect or text appears fuzzy

For your destination printer driver:

  • Set driver to always use True-Type Fonts (slower)
  • Make changes to the Font-Substitution Table

Image is the wrong size

  • Set driver scaling off in your destination printer driver
  • If printing from viewer, print Original Image, not the Display Image

Printing takes a very long time or computer runs low on Virtual Memory

  • Increase Virtual Memory setting for WinNT
  • Get updated printer driver from manufacturer
  • Use Pinebush Technologies' drivers in place of Windows drivers (see Printer Table Editor in the HyperXpress online manual)

The Viewer did not display and no error messages appeared

Check runlog of last job in the HyperXpress Job Status Tab

HP-GL/2 Files are not properly processed by the HyperXpress RIP.

This will occur if the HP-GL/2 files contain embedded RTL images. The HP-GL/2 rasterizer included in HyperXpress is only for processing files containing vector commands.

Hesitation on plotters connected to a parallel port

Windows NT/2000 may plot very slowly. This is due to a problem where ECP parallel ports are not well supported. The workaround is to move the plotter to the network using a Network Print Server device.
